Gratitude Photo Day 2: Love

loveMy true love and me exiting the theater into this afternoon’s sunshine.
I’m grateful that he still holds my hand everywhere we go.

Lessons learned from this quick snapshot:

  1. The middle of a busy parking lot may not be the best place for photography.
  2. Even a spontaneous shot could benefit from a little composition (I just spent 10 minutes retouching a yellow parking line out of the hubby’s shadow).
  3. Consider the perspective–neither of us is 12 feet tall, although you’d never know it from this photo.

Gratitude Photo Day 1: Color

The fall colors have become much more intense in the local area over the past couple of days. The blazing red of this burning bush (actually a whole row of them) could not be ignored! I’m grateful that the strong winds that blew through over the last 24-hours didn’t tear them away before I could capture them (although they’d certainly make a brilliant carpet)!

Road trip: Skyline Drive

This is the only shot I monkeyed with before posting.

The hubby and I were hoping to see some glorious fall leaves when we drove through Shenandoah National Park along Skyline Drive today. There were a few golden hues, but the leaves were definitely past their peak by a couple weeks (duly noted for next year). It was still a lovely day out though…a leisurely drive, a tasty lunch, and a chance to play with the camera feature on my new iPhone. Gotta say, I’m impressed with the color and detail it captures. I think the days of point-and-shoot cameras are numbered. Why carry an extra piece of equipment if you’ve got such a quality camera in your phone?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to research photo editing apps. If you’ve got a favorite, please share!

This bronze statue of a war-weary soldier was positioned in front of a mural of a World War I battlefield cemetery at the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres, Belgium. To me, it spoke of the infinite toll war takes on all involved.
